Ahora que la temporada alta está tomando su paso, pensamos que sería hora de visitar el Mercado del Pueblo el Viernes, donde un cuerno de la abundancia de comida orgánica está a la venta, y los vendedores son las mismas personas que crecen o hacen el producto. Por ejemplo, Lina Weisman, fundadora y gerente del mercado, es la reina de los pepinillos en Sayulita, ofreciendo a la venta un sabroso surtido de pepinillos y condimentos picantes que prepara en su cocina durante la semana. Si quiere probar algunos de los pepinillos de Lina, lleguen temprano: invariablemente vende todo, al igual que muchos de los vendedores. El mercado es todo un éxito.
Lina reporta que ahora hay seis vendedores de la granja al mercado, que cosechan las frutas, hierbas y/o vegetales orgánicos que crecen ellos mismos y los traen para vender los Viernes. ¡Hablando de fresco y saludable! Es lo mejor que puede encontrar. También hay provedores de varias salsas y chutneys orgánicos, tres personas vendiendo productos medicinales herbales, tres vendiendo jabones naturales, dos vendiendo plantas para comenzar cultivo, y surtidos vendedores de café orgánico, smoothies, licuados, sopas, y cosas horneadas incluyendo fabulosos postres, rollos primavera, condimentos y aderezos para ensalada.
No teman, carnívoros. No han sido olvidados. Compré (y rápidamente devoré) un increíblemente delicioso sandwich de puerco, cocinado a la parrilla y bañado con sauerkraut fresca y, también de la parrilla, una salchicha picante. Otro vendedor ofrece deliciosamente aromático pescado ahumado.
Mientras se aproxima al mercado por calle Miramar, puede ver como se ha hecho críticamente masivo. ¡El zumbido comienza! La gente de Sayulita, locales y visitantes por igual, se juntan para comprar y cuchichear; gente vendiendo sombreros, mantas, manteles, todo tipos de comestibles, una mueblería de equipal en una camioneta ha hecho su tienda sobre el camino, y en una esquina del mercado, nuestro buen guitarrista local David Ruiz levanta una serie de melodías amplificadas ligeramente, desde Erik Satie hasta rock n’ roll, con un sombrero para nuestras propinas. Si está en el pueblo un Viernes, no se pierda el mercado. Es un espectáculo, y ese sandwich de puerco, como del tamaño de la cabeza, partido y servido en pan fresco de focaccia, costó solo $50MN. ¡Una ganga!
El Mercado también le permite a cinco vendedores que no ofrecen comida, poner sus mesas -todos sin ánimo de lucro- incluyendo Costa Verde International School, Entreamigos, Escuela del Mundo, Galeria Tanana, y Sayulitanimals.
